Yesterday was quite an exciting day! I had a meeting with my photographer from my current project, and obviously… we went to Starbucks. ‘Cause you know, if you’re going out for a business meeting, obviously Coffee is where it’s at. (I say that, and yet I don’t even drink Coffee…so what am I even on about?!)
So I’ve been thinking, it’s nice and fun writing my thoughts every week…but it seems like such a long time since everything happened, that I tend to forget what to write about!
Can I just squeal over the fact that OCTOBER IS HERE?! *Squeal!* Ahh, October. How I love thee.
No but seriously, I love October, and also December, but October definitely is my favourite month of the year. It’s because every year, it’s the start of some new bonding/re-bonding, fresh starts and another year of learning… Well… it was… now I’m a graduate…
That last part hits me hard. I’ll be honest, and I shan’t go on and on about it, but I’ve always known that I thrive off other people. I need a group/collective of people to surround myself with, as it gets my creativity and mind going. Alas, here I am in my own room working on a project…unsure as to how to meet new people.
I have been thinking about going a Netball team, or maybe even looking for a new job. Currently, I’m a freelancer (which I’d like to pursue with) but I also want to be around like minded people. That being said, I think I need to push on into the world of performance, or at least, be in the company of creative people. Whether they’re videographers or set designers, I need that sense of creativity in my life. Have I said creative a few too many times?
Speaking of creativity (I guess that’s word of the post today!), I mentioned last week how I’ve finished one costume out of four, and guess what… I’m nearly done with my second one! It’s going really well to be honest, I’m quite happy – I didn’t think I’d feel as in control of this project as much as I am, but I guess I’ve given myself a LOT of time to complete it. Hopefully it all works out and goes to plan!
I have to admit, I am glad I’m keeping myself busy. I am afraid, don’t get me wrong. Like, what comes to mind often is the same sentence probably a lot of people feel “What if this doesn’t work out? What if it goes wrong?” And though a little voice keeps saying this, I always give kudos to myself. Why? Well, if I don’t try, and I just allow this little voice to dictate how I push on in life, then I will always be thinking “But I have so many ideas… what if they’re that ONE idea?”
If you ever feel afraid of something, but you know deep down that if you don’t try, you’ll feel defeated, then go for it. Don’t ever look back in life thinking “What if I had made the plunge? What if it hadn’t gone wrong?” I look back on my university experience and I do regret the fact I let that little voice dictate decisions I made. As a freelancer, I won’t let myself go through feeling that way when I’m older…if I get to live that old!
Ohh, an exciting thing happened last week! I met up with some old uni friends, for one of their birthdays, and boy was it such a good day. My friend and I walked all around Central London and then headed to Zizi’s where we enjoyed a really nice LOOOOONG catch up. Once the meal was over, we waved our friend off on her train, and headed our separate ways. It was so nice to be back with my friends again. That’s what I need! I need people, like them, in my life! My target is to meet new people before the end of the year. Yeah, 3 months to go…it’s not a hard target, it’s achievable… *she says with high hopes!*
Anyways, I would love to connect with you guys on here! Please comment so we can get to know one another, I KNOW! Question of the post: What is your latest target?
Ciao for now!
So I’m back…I’m popular demand.
Okay, I haven’t actually been listening to Beyonce at all today (though there isn’t any hate towards her!) but it came to mind!
So a winner was chosen for the Zoella Beauty giveaway! Congratulations to @khiyah_25 on Instagram, I hope you enjoy your prizes *secretly jealous of your win!*
How did I feel about that project? Well, in all honesty, I did enjoy it but the timing was all wrong. I was attending a family wedding in-between that same period, and boy did that take a lot of energy from me. I am still, to this day, recovering from it all. I’m tired. I need a holiday/break to rejuvenate.
That’s not to say I didn’t like the Zoella project, because I loved the designing and creating process. It reignited my love for costume again, as the last costume I had made that I was proud of, was in March. It’s been a few months since I’ve felt that way, and I’m very excited about going back to creating costume work.
I’ve always enjoyed Character design. I think I’ve finally come to terms with what I’m all about. I loved Sandy Powell’s Cinderella costumes (the animal to human costumes), and Colleen Atwood’s costumes combined with Tim Burton’s characters. That’s the style of work I’m inspired by. I’m not a traditional Costume Designer. I define myself as a Creative Producer, who has an overall vision, but specifically works on Costume and Character. Whilst I can say I want a [insert adjective here] feel, I think that there are better designers for that sector. For the last 8 years, I’ve honed in on Character/costume design. My skills are, I feel, strong in that area. That’s where my interest lies, and I need to embrace that. I need to embrace that whilst I have lots of creative ideas, I am a Character/Costume designer, not a Set designer. I shouldn’t get worked up over the fact that I can’t do everything. I know I can’t do everything, but a little voice inside my head sometimes challenges that idea. I’m happy to say I can’t do everything, as I’d rather spend more of my focus on one area rather than a little bit of focus on many different areas.
Which leads me on to my announcement… I am currently in the process of starting a VERY very exciting project. It will be released at the end of 2017, and I’m super excited to share this project with you. I don’t want to give any spoilers away, but I think if you’re as excited for Autumn and Winter as I am, then I think you’re going to like this!
On that note, I will end this post here… Teasers will start appearing on my Instagram and Twitter, so make sure you’re following both of those to keep in the loop.
I shall say Ciao for now, and leave you to ponder over this questions:
What are you most excited for this upcoming season?
Lots of love,
